One of the most versatile treatments modalities available, the M22 Universal IPL addresses so many of the things you might scrutinize when looking at the mirror. Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, is the gold standard for treating the effects of photoaging, including sunspots, uneven skin tone, and other variations in pigmentation, as well as red spots, redness, and spider veins. IPL has also been shown to help with pore size and can be used for hair removal.

Some of our favorite areas on the body to treat are the face, neck, upper chest, and arms. These tend to be the areas on the body that accumulate the most sun damage, and the IPL is perfectly situated to address these concerns using a single device.

Following IPL treatment, you may experience some redness and swelling that typically lasts 1-2 days. On occasion, this swelling can last longer than 2 days. In general, you may do most of your normal activities immediately following a treatment, but we do recommend against significant sun exposure in the days immediately before and after treatment.

The M22 Universal IPL uses Optimal Pulse technology to deliver a gentle series of sub-pulses with each pulse, resulting in a safer, more comfortable, more effective treatment than traditional IPL. There is a lower chance of burning, pigmentation problems, and scarring using this technique than with many other IPL devices.

IPL is akin to a medical grade flashlamp, emitting a wide array of colors of light with each pulse. These different colors of light may be used to treat different concerns, such as spider veins or sunspots. Filters may be used to limit certain wavelengths from being delivered to the skin to protect it or focus the treatment on a particular concern.

A laser, on the other hand, is composed of light emitted in the form of a single wavelength, or color. Different wavelengths of light may be used to treat different concerns. For example, our Excel V laser is a 532 nm laser that is absorbed primarily by red colors; thus, it is an excellent laser for vascular lesions. Our CO2 lasers use a 10,600 nm wavelength that heats water, which is ubiquitous in the skin and soft tissue in the body.
