Kybella is a minimally-invasive, FDA-approved medication and treatment that is used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe submental fullness, or “double chin.”

Kybella is made from deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally-occurring molecule that helps the body break down and digest fat. In the same way, Kybella helps to break down fat in the treatment area. Kybella typically requires 2-4 treatments, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.

During the procedure, Kybella is carefully placed into the targeted area using a fine needle. The procedure takes around 15-20 minutes, and patients can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. As a result of Kybella treatment, the fat cells are permanently destroyed, and the body naturally metabolizes the fat over the course of several weeks. The results are typically visible within 4 to 6 weeks and can continue to improve over the next several months.

Kybella is a safe and effective treatment for submental fullness (double chin), and can be used to complement other treatment options offered at Clarity Dermatology, including Coolsculpting and Facetite. The most common side effects of Kybella include swelling, mild to moderate pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. These side effects are generally temporary, and resolve on their own within a few days to a week.

Kybella is not a weight loss solution, and it’s not recommended for people who are significantly overweight or obese. It’s also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise, to help prolong the results of Kybella.
